On June 23, 2021, the Sisters of St. Ann (SSA) and the Royal BC Museum signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will provide enhanced access of the SSA’s private archival records to the Museum and to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre at UBC. Sister Marie Zarowny, President and Board Chair of the Corporation of The Sisters of Saint Ann, wrote the following letter regarding the Agreement.
On Thursday, June 10th, 2021 the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) announced that a delegation of Indigenous people is preparing to visit Rome to meet with Pope Francis. The CCCB has been working with Elders/Knowledge Keepers, residential school survivors, and youth from across the country for over two years to plan this visit. Although the trip was delayed due to the pandemic, the CCCB hopes the delegation will be able to travel to the Vatican before the end of 2021. The delegation to the Holy See represents an important step on the journey of reconciliation and shared healing for Indigenous Peoples and the Church in Canada.
